Understanding the Camera Buddy HUD
Important Notes:
- Use of this HUD can occassionally leave your Standard Second Life camera in a weird perspective.
- Fix: Turn the HUD on then off.
- Surprisingly this simple on/off fixes all issues.
- For Step A: Clicking anywhere on the HUD turns it on.
- For Step B: Click the green area to turn it off to regain control of the default SL camera.
- For Step C: Click and hold the red area.
- To set a camera angle before Step D, you need to learn how to use the Free Camera:
- Zoom in/out of the View: Use the Mouse Wheel.
- Orbitting a Clicked Location: Hold Alt then Left-Click mouse to orbit clicked point.
- Panning a Clicked Location: Hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt then Left-Click mouse to pan clicked point.
- With a new angle defined, Step D, click and hold an empty F1-F12 slot to save that camera perspective.
- After Step D: Any green F1 to F12 button can be clicked to set that angle.
- If you have the corresponding SL Gestures activated, you can press the F1 to F12 keys on your keyboard.
- Activation Troubleshooting: If you click any green buttons, and nothing happens, click ESCape to reset the camera, then reclick any of the F1-F12 buttons on the HUD or keyboard.
- If you have the corresponding SL Gestures activated, you can press the F1 to F12 keys on your keyboard.
Provided Second Life Gestures

There are 15 gestures, when activated:
- F1 to F12 changes the camera position and angle to a predefined one for the scene, but only if it appears Green on the HUD. If it's not green, nothing happens when pressed.
- Shift-F1 is used to turn off the Following feature. Once clicked, the camera will then slowly continue to turn towards the last avatar. To fix the camera again, select a different angle.
- Shift-F2 and Shift-F3 are two examples of the Following command.
- Example: Shift-F2 issues a "/555 Follow Quertie Resident" command
- Example: Shift-F3 issues a "/555 Follow Evelyn Reiko" command.
- Select any of the two of the Shift-F2 or Shift-F3 examples.
- Select COPY (from the right-click menu).
- Then click PASTE (from the right-click menu).
- Then open the Gesture and make the following changes:
- Change the gesture activation short-cut from Shift-F2 or Shift-F3 to something else, such as, Shift-F7.
- Set the Follow command, into the chat box in the gesture, such as:
/555 follow GreenLantern Excelsior
to follow Durant's XO. - Remember to Activate the Gesture (lower-left) before Saving! (If you forget, there is a right-click menu to activate.)
- If you activated the gesture, then Shift-F7 will cause your camera to follow Hal.
