I'll modify this over time as I figure stuff out.

Quertie's Backstory
Quertie is primarily a scientist but secondarily an engineer. Her primary area of study is in understanding high-energy spacial anomalies and their quantum energy field fluctuation, quantum field excitation and their interactions with subspace mechanics. The study is how to create highly localized pockets of energy with little substantive or supportive matter. Her engineering minor is in focusing this type of energy to create artificially created short-duration wormholes. Prior to the "Typhon Incident", Quertie's work was considered only theoretical.
Quertie comes to the crew a legend, after the deep space explorer vessel USS Ailurophile was destroyed by an unknown energy weapon on the far side of the Typhon Expanse. With the command and engineering crew lost, Quertie managed to create a mini wormhole large enough for escape pods to shoot through and ending up floating near Starbase 718. Quertie saved all crew not lost in the initial catastrophe, who would have surely perished otherwise.
Upon ensuring that all other crew members were through first, Quertie was the last to go through as the wormhole started to collapse. She was tossed around and knocked unconscious. After waking up she cannot remember how she did it, yet still awarded a command-level commendation, rarely given to science officers for quick thinking, above and beyond.
A celebrated a hero by many, she'd rather escape that past, and hide in the shadows. At times, it feels like Quertie is not saying everything, and as such, a deep mystery also surrounds her.

Quertie and the USS Gallant
((This is meant for the USS Gallant roleplay story writers, rather than for general knowledge. Written in the 3rd person intentionally. Shared with Ellemir.))
Ensign Ellemir met Quertie in Risa Orchid field many months ago during her shore leave. Ellemir never knew about the legend that preceded Quertie, only that she was friendly and easy to get along with, although it was clear she was a bit "distant" at times. ((to identify sort of some backstory about Quertie, and how Quertie connected to with Ellemir, to be plausible.))
They kept in touch over the months, until Quertie was ready to venture out for some space missions again. ((to account for the fact that we've been friends before she joined the Gallant.))
Quertie is hoping the USS Gallant will be a fresh start, an escape from ghost of the amazing scientist she's supposed to be and the uncertainty of a long-term deep space mission that she cannot remember. As such, she doesn't really want to talk to the crew about these heroic deeds, because she doesn't feel like it is deserved. ((yes she does, as part of RP, but will be resistant to the probing, also as part of RP. Don't want to overplay the significance of the worm whole thing till it's flushed out more.))
The Gallant might be a place to escape her past for a little while, just get through the day, and perhaps a way to rejig some of those memories of what exactly happened out there. The doctors believe that in time Quertie will start to remember some things again. ((see below, but essentially figure out the backstory under the guise of memory loss. Externally, I'll want to be resistant to talking about my past, but in rp, I really want to explore this past.))
Quertie will come a little dazed, and unsure of herself, so will need some time to figure out many things out. She'll be fearful of deep space, "space turbulence", crew with injuries, various tense situations, etc. ((I'll try to not overdue it; let me know if it's too much. Side note: this is really meant to give me a few weeks to figure out how RP really works on the Gallant, without being too heavy.))

Approach
I want to think about my back-story over time, rather than providing it up front. It allows me to evolve the character with the backdrop of 'loss of memory' as I get used to the RP you are doing, what you do, and how I can remember more, and weave a story in. It also allows me to not be initially integrated into the story line, just so I can figure things out.
Gallant crew is free to engage with me in anyway they see fit, as that will help me understand them and help me figure out my backstory a bit more.
